Details of Forthcoming Events
August
Wednesday 12th August and Thursday 13th August – Anchor to view the British Fireworks Championships in Plymouth Sound
Saturday 15th August – Down river sail
Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th August – Anchorage Cruise for cruisers
Saturday 22nd to Monday 24th August – Swallows and Amazons Cotehele Dinghy Camp

As per previous years, we set sail from Weir Quay to explore the upper reaches of the Tamar; camp close to Cotehele Quay in a gorgeous riverside spot; swim in the river/play in the mud if weather permits; enjoy BBQs, campfires, marshmallows, games, and more. Note there are no facilities on site: we have use of the toilets at the Quay, approx. 5 mins walk from camp. There are no showers or washing facilities, though we do walk to a nice clean stream to rinse off in after playing in the mud!
You’ll need to supply your own tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mat.
Cost: £55 per person (£27.50 for under 12’s), to include camping and all food apart from packed lunch on day 1. Apologies for the cost increase – everything has gone up this year!
Alternatively, adults/families are welcome to opt to self-cater throughout, in which case, cost will be £12 per head, to include use of the club BBQ.
As always, if you want to attend but cost is an issue, please do speak to me, in total confidence, as there is a limited number of bursary/pay what you can places generously provided by the Club.
Conditions of event
- Participants must be a minimum of 12 years old to attend camp unaccompanied.
- Ages 8 to 11 can sail unaccompanied but whilst ashore or participating in activities on land, must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or nominated adult, at all times.
- Due to the long days on the water, all participants must have a reasonable amount of dinghy sailing experience (eg. attended a minimum of half a dozen Friday evening sessions).
- Regret no under 6’s for this event at any time. Ages 6 and 7 are welcome in camp and for shore activities, again with a parent/nominated adult throughout.
- All sailors need to be WQSC Members for insurance purposes.
- Please expect to be asked to volunteer for jobs both with the advance organisation, and during camp – both for participants and for parents/guardians of juniors. I appreciate that many of you are fantastic at helping already – I just need to ensure the workload is more thinly spread!
- All overnight campers who are 18 and over must have a current DBS certificate. A pending application is no good: you must have received your certificate and have shown it to Phil Towers, Safeguarding Officer.
Permission forms will be going out later this month (July) so please don’t respond yet unless you have a query, in which case email suecoomber@talktalk.net.
